Happy Mid-Autumn!

Dear Residents,

Today is the 22nd September, and on our lunar calendar, it is the 15th day of the 8th month which is the Mid-Autumn Festival. On last Friday, 17th September, the Youth Chapter organised a Mid-Autumn Festival celebration and it was concluded a success.

The success was not through our efforts alone but with the help of a wonderful team and YOU, the residents of Haig Road.

Without your support, without your encouragements, without your participation, it is never possible for such events to happen. A BIG THANK YOU to all residents who participated the event. Thank you so much for all that support!

Behind such an awesome event, there lies a wonderful team!
Despite all the obstacles, problems and difficulties that we faced, I am glad that we have made it through and the Mid-Autumn Festival 2010 was a success!

Thank you to Mr Tang, Mr Tay, Mr Izzudin, Mr Michael, Mr Ong, Mr How, Auntie Kamariah & Auntie Jeanette for all the guidance, advice, support, encouragement and motivation that you have given us throughout the whole event and also, the whole formation of Youth Chapter or even the previous Youth Group. Without all the perseverance from our mentors, nothing could be possible.

Thank you to YEC especially Eddie, Andrew, Jaslyn, Aaron & Nadiah! For helping us out, giving us suggestions and supporting us since the beginning of Youth Chapter!

Thank you to Haig Vista Sub-Committee & Auntie Jenny, for helping us out in packing of goodies bags, going round selling tickets, preparation of the food and the encouragements that you gave to us(:

Thank you to MAEC & RC for always helping us out and supporting the events that the Youth Chapter organised!

For coming down to help despite your hectic schedule, participating in the planning process, practising very hard for the dance, packing the goodie bags, selling tickets and all the little things that each and every one of you have done. Thank you!

SANA Flag Day

Last Saturday, on 26th June 2010, was Singapore Anti-Narcotics Association (SANA) Flag day!! (:

Some of the YC along with some RC Members, went over the foodcourts, Geylang Serai Market, Joo Chiat Complex and many others to collect donations from endless number of wonderful donors. Not only our bag were full, even all our stickers given by SANA was used up due to supportive response.

We are also told that we had collected a total of more than $400!!! This is a very great achievement for us, also for SANA.

On behalf of Geylang Serai YC, I would like to thank those who helped, and also to those who donated. And also special thanks to SANA for giving us the opportunity to help out in the Flag Day. It was an indeed a challenging but wonderful experience..

Summer Party 2010 was a huge success!

The Geylang Serai Residents' Committee Youth Chapter was officially launched on 20th June 2010, by MP Dr Fatimah Lateef and CED Mr Yam Ah Mee. The Summer Party was a successful event, with all the residents who attended leaving with happy smiles.

We, the organising committee, would like to express our heartfelt thanks to all those who have helped us in all the stages of the planning as well as the continuous support during the execution of the event and the post-event clean-up.

Our eternal gratitude goes to our mentor, Mr Tay Tiong Watt, who has given us so much advice and encouragement, telling us to "go there and have fun!" and we sure did!

To Mr Teng Heng Huat, our taukay who has supported us in so many aspects for the party, our thanks will never be enough.

To Mr Izzudin Omar, who has contributed so much of his time and energy, thank you so much for helping us with the emceeing and allowing us to run the programme in our own way.

To Mr Michael Chia, Mdm Kamariah and the rest of the Haig Vista Sub-Committee, thank you for all the suggestions, the time and effort spent helping us sell tickets and also for the help during the event.

To Mr Ong Seng Siong, thank you so much for having supported us from the beginning and the issue with our shirts as well as running the game of tug-of-war.

To Mdm Lina from the MAEC, thank you so much for supporting us generously and even helping out on the day itself!

To Derric, Ms Ruby, Ms Nadiah, and everyone else at Geylang Serai CO, thank you for helping us with the logistics and admin from the start until the end. :D

To Eddie, Andrew and the rest of GS YEC, thanks for all your support with the Launch of the YC; here's to more collaborations with the YEC in the future!

To Mr How, Mr Jack Chan, and the rest of the RC members, we wouldn't be here as a sub-committee if it wasn't for your encouragements.

To the RHYA from South East CDC, thanks so much for helping us out on that day, with the game booths, the chicky dance and the YOG dance!

And thanks to all the members of the Youth Chapter, for sticking through with us from the beginning; distributing flyers, selling tickets, planning the programme, procuring logistics, all the headaches with constant changes to the programme, packaging the prizes, making bookmarks, blowing balloons, filling up water balloons, decorating, and all the manual labour; all your blood, sweat and tears; thank you thank you thank you love you all!

Last but not least, thanks to all of you awesome people who were there; those who turned up to support us and participated; many many thanks especially to you; THANK YOU!

Health Screening 2009 & Youth Got Talent

Dear residents,

There is an upcoming event -- Health Screening 2009.
This Health Screening is for adults who are above 30 years old and there is only 100 vacancies so hurry to the RC at Blk 5 Haig Road to buy the tickets.

Each ticket is sold at $12.00 only.

RC will be open during weekdays from 7.30pm to 10.00pm.
So if you want to go for this Health Screening, do purchase your ticket at the RC.

NEXT:

PA T-Net Club is organising a multi-language singing competition which means that you can sing English songs, Chinese songs, Malay songs or Tamil songs in the competition.

This competition is residents who are below 35 years old and the Finals of this competition will be conducted at Ngee Ann City Civic Plaza on the 8th of November 2009 at 3.00pm. But before you could proceed to the Finals, you'll have to pass through the audition round which will be conducted at T-Net Club @ Macpherson, 2.00pm on 18th October 2009 and also pay a registration fee depending on your category.

Closing date for registration is 13th October 209.

Peer Mentoring and Study Programme

Exams are round the corner and we understand that some of you might need a quiet environment to do your own revision and self-study.

Some of you might have some problems with your work and might need help.

So, the youth group came up with the idea of starting up a PEER MENTORING AND STUDY PROGRAMME catered to all of you out there.

Our youth group members will do our best to help you guys in your work, BUT we are also students too so we are not all-knowing like your teachers are!

We will ensure that the RC Centre will be a conducive environment for all of you to study in.

So the information are as follows:
Location : Blk 5 Haig Road -- RC Centre
Days: Saturday and Sunday
Dates: 25th April, 3rd May, 10th May, 16th May* and 17th May*
Time: 9.30 am to 3.30 pm
*Dates are subjected to changes

This is the very first post from GSRC Youth Group!!

For this, we're announcing our kick-off day!!
